SAFA Skysailor Magazine
34 SKY SAILOR December-January-February | SUMMER 2025 There is no walk in access from the valley to the launch area as the land is privately owned and cannot be accessed by members of the public. There are launch area rules all para- gliders and hang gliders need to follow, and which Safety Officers and accompany- ing pilots from the Canungra HG Club will be able to inform you on during your visit. Landing The landing area known as the 'Big Shelf' is located to the south-east of launch, approximately halfway down the hill. It is a large and mostly flat, cleared area that has a north-south orientation. Big Shelf is the only official bomb-out at Beechmont, so pilots must be aware if they are flying below launch height to keep this landing zone within range and ensure they have enough height to line up for a safe approach and landing. The walk out from the Big Shelf LZ is approximately a 35 to 40 minute walk through the club’s land back to launch. Emergency landings An area known as the ‘Prison Farmland’ may be used in emergencies when a pilot is below launch and unable to safely land on the Big Shelf bomb-out. When standing on launch, this area can be seen at the Rosins Lookout, Beechmont
