35 SUMMER 2025 | December-January-February SKY SAILOR base of the ridge that runs down into the valley on the right-hand side of launch. Top landing Pilots are permitted to land in the property directly behind launch and the Flying Bean Cafe. Land near the windsock situated near the crest of the hill. Face landing PG4 or PG5 rated paraglider pilots are permitted to land anywhere along the face south of the windsock situated next to the road. Other safety tips Further to the rules and tips that have already been mentioned, there are a few more things pilots need to be mindful of: • • Be aware of the power line north of launch running down into the valley. • • There is commonly a wind gradient on landing, which can be severe in the last 50 feet. • • If going XC from Beechmont, in moderate winds there is no safe landing until Hinchcliffe bomb-out. • • The Model Airfield is a suitable alter- native landing area in southerly winds when pilots struggle low at the northern end of Beechmont ridge. Instead of trying to reach the official bomb-out, pilots can fly down the easterly spur and land there. • • No ground handling of gliders on the launch area at any time! (Ground handling is permitted at the toplanding area). Where to stay Beechmont borders the Gold Coast local council area and is a short drive to hundreds of accommodation options along the coast, including Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads. If you want to stay closer to the flying site, Beechmont has a number of accom- modation options from cottages to farm- stays, luxury retreats and campgrounds. In nearby Canungra you will find homestay options and pub stays. For more, visit the Canungra Club website at https://www.flycanungra.com.au/
