SAFA Skysailor Magazine

13 July | August 2023 SKY SAILOR A 76.3km, three TP task was set. The route was a zigzag task NE with the optimal route combining flats and mountains. The day was all about whether to chose a route over the flats or the foothills. The foothills worked stronger with better clouds. Pilots who chose this route weren’t pushing into wind with every single glide, instead it was a bit crosswind – further, but faster and higher with strong 3-4m/s climbs at times. Down low it was really tricky. The last downwind leg to goal dropped a few people. It was a fast leg, with pilots registering 70km/h at times. A nice glide to goal – once you knew you were going to make in. Not many famous faces predicted to do well were among the 37 pilots who made goal. However, it’s becoming a tradition that Nico Dinh wins the first task at PWCs in Romania!
