SAFA Skysailor Magazine

6 SKY SAILOR May | June 2021 by Carley O’Connell A week out from International Women’s Day and our planned ‘Let’s fly together’ event and the Canungra forecast looked dire. I was checking updates daily and was very tempted to race down to Dubbo to join a bunch of women flying a tow safari instead. Each day the forecast improved and four days out, I confirmed we would go ahead at Beechmont with our event. We kicked off at 8am with soaring conditions already in place. A quick site brief for our Northern Rivers friends – Jan, Alice, Sonja, Petra and Tess – who drove 90 minutes across the border to join us. Molly was keen and launched, closely followed by Ella, and both had great early flights on the cloudy Sunday morning. Carrie, Viva and Lara waited for the right conditions and launched into a crowded battle for light climbs with many other club pilots. Some got up, and some sunk out to bomb out. Fortunately, Al was waiting at the landing field in the Paratech Paragliding mini bus to bring our pilots back up to launch for another flight. International Women’s Day 2021 #ChooseToChallenge
