SAFA Skysailor Magazine
29 May | June 2023 SKY SAILOR “We hope such photos and videos will have the power to convey the beauty, magnificence, and preciousness of the Earth we live on, perhaps enabling the viewer of Yamamoto’s photos and videos to experience what he feels as he flies over these summits of the world.” The team of six will be the first to attempt this feat across all continents. For the Kosciusz- ko expedition, the team in Australia will consist of eight people including Dr Peter Evans and Mr Martin Hughes of Jindabyne Airstrip, with at least an additional 10 people working behind the scenes to realise the expeditions, and numerous people financially supporting the cause through sponsorship and crowdfunding. The shoot at Mt Kosciusko is expected to take two days, with the flight taking about two hours if all goes to plan, depending on air flows, wind, and weather conditions. Safety is the team’s number one priority, so there are factors that will be taken into account – such as dropping oxygen levels en- countered at higher altitudes. The team plans to climb the peak of the mountain on foot. The photos and videos will be shown at exhibitions and may be published as books and DVDs. In addition, the expedition will be produced into at least two separate TV programs (one episode of a broadcast channel series and one documentary on a satellite channel) aired in Japan. The photographers are also willing and happy to discuss other uses, including aca- demic use or conservancy effort publicity. “We hope this will let more people know what a great experience it is to fly on a powered paraglider,” Erika explained. “The broadcast channel program covering the expedition is quite popular and has many viewers in Japan.” For further details about the project visit naohphoto.com.
