28 SKY SAILOR November | December 2022 Women are continuing to spread their wings and join the thrill of paragliding by taking to the skies of several locations around Australia for pilot training events. Women with Wings Australia has been working together with the Sports Aviation Federation of Australia (SAFA) to attract more women to the sport by facilitating opportunities for edu- cation, mentorship, connection and friendship. Some of Australia’s best paragliding locations have been buzzing with female pilots who have taken part in SIV training and challenges to develop flying skills and build confidence, enabling them to maximise their potential and make the most of their airtime. SkySurf Paragliding held a SIV training day at Lake Burrendong, near Dubbo in September to teach eight female pilots how to react in emergency situations and to recover their wing if they experience collapses. A second SIV training event was held in the same month at Lake St Claire, NSW, by SkyOut Paragliding with the same goals in mind. Australian women rise to the thrill of sports aviation across the country
