32 SKY SAILOR September-October-November | SPRING 2026 The Widgee milk run is the classic flight north along the range to the solar farms. Rosco and Kevin bought the milk, then brought it all the way back to the bomb- out with their out-and-returns. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as reading the conditions throughout the day, flying into, across and with the wind, and eventually landing back beside your car. Carol and I continued south along a line new to both of us, scouting possibilities for future flights. As forecast, cloudbase was higher farther west, but it was bitterly cold at 2400m. Getting low was a relief… until we thawed and hunted climbs again. Our flights ended short of the planned Linville target in a valley, absolutely without phone reception. Despite this, Chris Robinson eventually managed to retrieve us. Highlights included a local driving us along the valley, pointing out herds of deer and offering us venison salami, with Bundy to wash it down.
