SAFA Skysailor Magazine
63 SUMMER 2025/2026 | December-January-February SKY SAILOR Pilots are urged to resolve all mechanical issues before flying their equipment. Consult the manufacturer’s service specifications and ensure all maintenance is carried out in a timely manner. #1950 – HG failed take off, Qld/N PIC launched in light 7kt wind at Rex Lookout (Qld/N). The RH wing dropped and the glider ground-looped coming to rest 6-8m right of, and 1m below take-off. No pilot injuries were sustained. Glider damage included right outer leading edge broken, right nose wire broken. The wind strength must be accurately assessed as suitable for the launch. Always have wings level before and during the launch run, always launch with as fast a run as possible. Excess launch speed can be converted to altitude; inadequate launch speed could result in stall of one or both wings close to the ground.
