SAFA Skysailor Magazine
29 January | February 2022 SKY SAILOR a previous cancelled course) as well as a few new pilots who were able to attend mid-week and bypassed the list! The second course was held over 20-21 October and we ended up with another seven booked in, with one cancella- tion. It was still a good number of attendees and both courses had a mix of 582 and 912 owners. We are starting to see more Gyro owners on these courses with the 914 engines and try to include the extra parts required for their servicing, as far as we can. Shortly before the course dates, Rotax amended their 912 Line Maintenance Manual, so Kev and I spent many hours updating the course material to reflect these changes. Soon after, RAAus amended their manuals, so we had to follow suit and update once more – we try to keep our material current and relevant, including updated websites where necessary. We extended our stay this time to include the RAAus sponsored Workshop ‘Return to safe flying’ on Sunday, 24 October. Several of these workshops had already been held by SDFC earlier in the year and were very successful. We weren’t entirely sure what we needed to contribute since flying had already commenced again in the area by the time we were able to travel there. However, we went over what people should be looking for on their (or others’) aircraft, so Kev gave a brief Above (clockwise from top left): 16-17 October group (l-r) – Andrew Taylor, Chris Ireland, Rocky, Gavin Flavel, Larry Jones, Michael Hazelwood, Steve Lovegrove; front row – Kev, Sib Bukhari; Ian’s diff test; Rocky’s new Alto; Synchronised filter cutting with Cat; Left page (clockwise from top left): 20-21 October group (l-r) – Bruce Clark, Ric Onley, Larry Jones, Roger Onley, Jim Runciman, Ian Drennan and Anton Altin; Jim doing the diff Px test; Filter inspection Photos: Carole MacNally
