To fly safely and successfully requires a delicate recipe: light winds, strong thermals, and a high cloud base above 2500m. The fore- cast for 2 January 2025 promised just that. The plan was set in motion. With my trusty Niviuk Peak5, and joined by my friend Geoff Wong flying his Ozone Zeno2, we stood on Mystic launch at 11am, ready to embark on a 115km adventure across four legendary mountains. The idea first took root years ago, during a family hike from Mt Hotham to Mt Feathertop. While walking those ridges, I found myself scanning the valleys below, mentally plotting possible emergency landing options deep in the Alpine wilder- ness. Ever since that day, the vision of flying above these mountains and con- necting them in one continuous journey has been firmly etched in my mind.
