24 SKY SAILOR June-July-August | WINTER 2026 At times pilots could be seen heading in different directions simultaneously – some north along the coast, others south, and a few choosing to remain near the airfield to practise manoeuvres and refine their skills. A weekend of learning One of the most rewarding aspects of the weekend was the strong focus on learning and skill development. The mix of expe- rienced pilots and newer flyers created a great environment for knowledge sharing. Newer pilots received plenty of guidance and encouragement, whether it was assistance with wing layout, launch technique or understanding the con- ditions. More experienced flyers were always willing to offer advice, and there was a strong sense everyone was there to help each other improve. Ground-handling sessions were common throughout the weekend, with pilots practising wing control on the grass beside the strip. For many, these sessions were just as valuable as the flying itself. Watching skilled pilots manage their wings in different conditions provided a great opportunity to learn. Evenings became informal debrief sessions where pilots gathered to discuss the day’s flying. Topics ranged from Propfest 2026
