SAFA Skysailor Magazine
25 WINTER 2026 | June-July-August SKY SAILOR weather conditions and flight planning to local airspace considerations and hazards around the area. These conversations helped everyone stay aware of conditions and safe operating practices. Pilots from across the country The event attracted a wide mix of pilots and machines, including foot-launch paramotors, trikes and Aerochutes. This diversity added another layer of interest, as pilots could see different equipment setups and flying techniques in action. Among the visiting pilots was Jeff Hoffmann from Victoria, who runs Pico. His presence gave pilots the opportunity to discuss equipment and training while sharing experiences from different parts of the country. Queensland pilot Simon Hunnisett also drew attention with his impressive reverse launch technique on his trike. Watching a trike smoothly reverse launch into the air demonstrated the level of skill that can be achieved with practice and precision. Another highlight was Michael Abbott providing tandem flights throughout the weekend. These allowed newer pilots and potential newcomers to experience powered paragliding firsthand. For some, it was their first time airborne in a paramotor, and the smiles said it all. The gathering also included some well- known names within the flying community. Gary Bell and Tim Rowlinson had recently completed an extraordinary journey flying from the UK to Ukraine. Their stories and experience added another dimension to the weekend’s conversations. Matt Fox was also among those attend- ing. His experience of flying the famous Morning Glory and being a QLD instructor brought further depth to the group’s col- lective knowledge. Photos: Brett Paul
